"It Happens"

Sydney loves music! It is no mistake that she really likes country music...because that is all that we listen to. On the way to daycare this morning with daddy, "It Happens" by Sugarland came on and she yells "that's mommy's favorite song!" (she does it with so much enthusiasm too). Jim didn't know if this was true, so he didn't question her. After he dropped off he called to confirm....and sure enough, she was right. "It Happens" is one of my favorite songs, at this time. When it has come on the radio when we are in the car together, she has started singing some of the words with me. I can't carry a tune for anything...but she can!

When a song comes on the radio that she recognizes, she will make a point to say "mommy / daddy that song is on my radio at home or on the radio in daddy's truck". She doesn't quite grasped the concept of the radio....but we love that she loves listening to it...and she is really listening.

It also has to be said, that she sleeps with the radio on and will tell you that the radio helps her go to sleep.

**thankfully she doesn't really know what the real meaning behind "It Happens". haha! **

Funny Story!

Okay, since I'm horrible at uploading new pictures (mainly because our computer is old and slow and I have little, to no patience for it anymore)...I will just share funny stories.

Sydney has done this twice, but the most recent was last week when we didn't have daycare and my mom was watching her on Monday. They were at the park and she wanted to be lifted up to the monkey bars, so she asked for Grandma's help. Grandma said she was to short and she would have to wait for someone taller (thinking Sydney would just go play on something else)....but instead she heads off towards the playgroud and yells "God!, God!, God!" (yes, really...God...and really loud! :)) Grandma asks her why she is yelling for God, Sydney said "because she needs someone tall to help her on the monkey bars". Grandma replied with "you might be waiting awhile". She yelled for God a few more times and then moved on to play on something else when she realized no one was coming to help her on the monkey bars.

The one other time she has done this is when she was in the truck with Jim. Out of no where she starts yelling for God. Jim asked her why she was yelling for God. Because she wanted to tell Him that she had got a new swingset (she had been praying for one for a LONG time). She wanted to be sure He knew, she had finally got it.

I love that she knows that God there is to help (we can thank daycare for this, since we aren't the best at going to church on a regular basis)....and I love the innocence she has and isn't afraid to yell for Him. :)

I'm sure I will think of more funny stories...as I do I will be sure to post them on here (to share with all of you and really for me to remember them)!

Where have the Jagow's been?

Wow...I haven't posted since Feb.? Yikes! Life has been busy, busy, busy! If the weather is rainy this weekend, I'll see about uploading some pictures...I only have a few! haha! In the meantime, here is a few that I took with my phone.

Sydney's 3 yr pictures....

Some of my favorite's from Sydney's 3 year photo shoot with Liz on Saturday, Jan. 17th. Once again, Liz did a great job of capturing Sydney being herself. We had a lot of fun with Liz and would recommend her to anyone looking for a photographer (her link is also on the right)!

Where do you put your peas?

Well, if you were to ask Sydney this question she would say "in her ear AND in her nose"! Yes, that is correct....and that is exactly what she did yesterday at lunch. She was eating lunch and I was vacuuming the living room (right around the corner, with my eye on her)....well, for those few seconds my eyes weren't on her is when she decided to put a pea in her ear and in her nose. When I looked in on her, I asked her what she was doing, her reply was "nothing"....that ALWAYS means something. As I got closer I realized something was off....when it was confirmed that a pea was in her ear, I about freaked (I had visions of having to go to the ER to get it removed)...but thankfully, it was only slightly in there and I was able to get it without incident. After that I sat down with her to finish her lunch....that is when I realized the pea in the nose....UGH! "Sydney, what are you doing putting a pea in your ear and in your nose?" "I wanted to." Well, of course, that makes sense. When I asked her how many she stuck in her nose "one" and her ear "one". I quickly examined both ears and both nostrils....thankfully there wasn't anymore peas stuck where they shouldn't be. So, next time you are wondering where you should stick your peas....a friendly reminder from me is "not in your ear or in your nose". :)

Sydney's 3 yr Dr. Visit

We had Sydney’s 3 year check up yesterday (hard to believe she is already 3). We finally made the switch to a pediatrician (we were seeing a family doctor, but had wanted to switch and since we moved, we thought it was a good time to do so). I really like this new doctor (Dr. Sercombe at Metro Peds in Burnsville). When he came in he shook my hand, Jim’s hand and being the non shy Sydney, she immediately put her hand out for him to shake too. She was full of LOTS of energy, which I was assured is normal for her age. :) Thank goodness Jim was with on this visit…I was able to answer all the dr’s questions and Jim kept an eye on her.

What was different at this dr. office, compared to our other one is that they had an “assessment” for us to do with Sydney…like name the animals on the page, point to the animals when said one, jump over the paper, answer questions like “what do you do with a cup?” – she gestures “drink”….we eventually got her to say the word, but she looked at us like we were crazy. Or when I asked her “what do you do when you are hungry?” – she signed “hungry” (rub her stomach) (side note: we didn’t teach her very much sign language, but lately she has been telling me things she has learned at daycare ((we love our daycare))….eventually we got her to say “eat”. For the most part she passed this assessment (or so we think)…and it was fun doing this with her. We also learned that she is way ahead in vaccines – apparently our other clinic does the chicken pox one early and this new clinic doesn’t usually do it until they are 5. Hmm…

Fun tidbits:
* She just started saying “giddy up joker, I’m gonna kiss a ____ (bug, toad, frog, horse, etc)” and after each time she says it she laughs (it is pretty funny!).
* Still eats pretty much everything we give her
* She loves popcorn (and especially loves it when daddy has it in the car when she is with him and mommy isn’t there…but hasn’t learned to keep that a secret :))
* Loves the color orange
* Is (finally) potty trained (as of Thanksgiving weekend), with the exception of bedtime (she’s still in a crib – plans are to move her soon…)
* Just got a fish – her reward for potty training – fishes name “FISH” :)
* Loves to do puzzles, play outside, daycare

3 year Stats
Wt: 34 lbs (78%) – her weight didn’t change from her 2 yr to now
Ht: 38 in (71%) – she grew 4 inches last year

STAYED TUNED for….Christmas pictures….I took over 300 pictures this year (I got a new camera and went a little crazy with all the fun settings :))…as soon as I have time to edit them, I will post those…and her 3 year pictures.....we had those taken by Liz again and should hopefully have them this weekend....I can't wait!

"for the love of liz...."

What is “The Liz Logelin Foundation” and the “My Stuff Bags”? As most you may know, I have been following a blog since I first learned about them, from an article in the Star Tribune in April 2008. I do not personally know Matt or Madeline, but this blog has touched my heart in ways I can’t explain. For those of you that are not familiar with the site, Matt lost his wife, Liz, 27 hours after their daughter Madeline was born. Madeline lost her mother. Liz never got to hold her daughter. The blog is a love story to Liz and Madeline. As a mother myself, I can’t imagine this unthinkable. I suppose one of my biggest fears (now that I am married and a mother) is dying young and my children not knowing me. (For the record…I know that it is all up to God, but it is still a fear of mine....) I never had that fear before I was married….it’s amazing how life changes when it isn’t “just you” anymore.

Back to the real reason for this entry….the Liz Logelin Foundation was created to support other widow / widowers that have children. The other link on the right, “My Stuff Bags”, is a charity that Matt has chosen to support as well (so I have too)! So if you can find it in your budget to donate a little bit, to either charity, it would be much appreciated.

Matt’s blog has reached around the world and touched more lives then ever imagined. Personally, this blog has changed my outlook on life, so in those moments that life just seems crazy and nothing seems to be right, I will often times think about Matt and Madeline and know that it will okay.
