10 days until Christmas and not a card has been purchased....

I should have ordered my Christmas cards by now....but in my true fashion, I'm getting a late start.  BUT this is my lucky year, I can get 50 cards for free!  Shutterfly is having a wonderful promotion right now.  All I have to do is to write a blog post about how much I like / love Shutterfly.  Easy!  I've used Shutterfly a number of different times this year to make a few photo books.  I've tried the soft cover and the hard cover.  the soft cover is 5x7 and the perfect size for my daughter.  Another one I got was an 8x8 hard cover book of our family vacation.  They are both beautiful...and wonderfully fast to complete.

Now I must get busy at choosing the design for our card this year...maybe I can them out in the mail BEFORE Christmas.  ha!  Hopefully before New Years Day is my goal!

It's December?

Where did the time go?  I haven't posted since Thanksgiving...goodness. 

Well, my first attempt at NaBlaPoMo wasn't too bad.  I posted 16 times, out of 30 days, during the month of November.  I had fun doing it.  Obviously, I kind of fell off towards the end of the month, but that just means we have been busy.

We had a great Thanksgiving...as always.  A quick recap on what we have been up to the past week or so.

As I mentioned in my last post, we were in Austin for part of Thanksgiving weekend.  We got the Jeep passenger window fixed...nothing like not having a ghetto window, with layers of tape just to keep it up, fixed.  The small things in life.  Bonus was that my dad paid for it for us too.  Our Christmas present.  Not exactly what I usually ask for, but was very happy when he offered.  Plus he was happy too, since he doesn't have to come up with something else for us. ha! 

I did get up and go shopping on Black Friday, but I didn't leave the house until 10:30ish...and got all that I went for.  Which wasn't much.  My highlight of shopping that day was running into two friends that I only keep "in touch" with on FB.  Great to see them!  Jim, Sydney and I met my dad, Brad, Jessie and Brianna for lunch too.  It was so nice to see them all.  I even got a few smiles out of Brianna...love that little girl! :)  After lunch Jim headed back home, while Sydney and I stayed at my mom's.  That night we were going to go to Christmas in the City...but it was to darn cold.  We skipped it.  We went to WalMart instead to check out their Christmas section and had dinner at McDonald's.  We drove by the festivities on Main St...didn't look like we missed much.  Then it was home for the night.  Sat. we enjoyed lunch at Steve's pizza...YUM!  Then we took Sydney to "Main Street" (store).  They have an awesome indoor playground for kids..and she needed to burn off some energy.  Mom and I took turns looking at all the great things they have there.  After that we packed up and headed home.  Made a quick stop at the Medford Outlet mall so we could go to Carter's.  Made it home in time for bed (for Sydney) and for me to fall asleep on the couch...ha!

What did we do last week?  Good question!  I know we were busy, but must have been with random things.  Monday night I "had" to run out to get Sydney's "Santa" gift...I was worried they would run out of them (an awesome bike).  Feels so good to have almost all of her gifts bought.  Thursday night I had a TS party to attend and before I went, I had to find a Leapster Explorer for Sydney, from G & G Jagow.  Found it!  Whew!  I think that means all of her big gifts are bought!  And Friday was a snowstorm...during rush hour.  Which means that it took me almost 2 hours to get to daycare...usually I can make it there in about 40 - 45 mins.  Needless to say I was happy to get home.  Those are days when I question why I live where we do.  ha!

Saturday was spent cleaning.  We also had Jim's holiday party on Sat. night.  Well, really it was for Intertec, which he sub-contracts for them.  He probably knows more people there than he does for the actual company he works for.  The life of a contractor I guess.  The party was at the Wabasha Caves and was catered by Cosetta's.  YUM!!  Not only was I excited for us to be invited to a work holiday party (neither of us had one last year), but the fact that it was catered by Cosetta's made it even better.  They also had Casino Night, where you could earn money to use later to bid on auction items.  Great prizes too.  Lots of fun playing "21" and "Hi/Lo" (I think that's what they were called).  We won a docking station / stereo for our ipod at home.  Nice!  They also had gifts for everyone when you left.  Another cool thing was that all W2 employee's (which Jim is not...remember he is a sub-contractor) received an Ipod Touch as another holiday gift. 

Sunday we went to get our Christmas Tree.  We thought it would be fun to go to a Christmas Tree farm, however, being that I'm a Christmas Tree farm virgin, I had no idea that we needed to dress up as if we were going to play in the snow.  HA!  Needless to say, Jim was dressed for the part, but Sydney and I were NOT.  So, instead of cutting down our own tree, we opted to buy one already cut.  Good choice.  Much more spendy then our normal one at Home Depot, but...we were already there and it was freezing.  After a little searching for the 3 Christmas Tree stands that we own (yes, 3...don't ask), Jim found them and the tree is now sitting in our entry way, waiting for us to bring it up to the living room.  It is so pretty and smells so good.  Can't wait to decorate it.  Speaking of which, after we got home with the tree, I made a turkey (we wanted a Thanksgiving meal that we didn't get on Thanksgiving...it was yummy), but I also pulled out all our Christmas stuff from under the stairs.  Six totes of crap stuff...who needs that much Christmas stuff? NOT US!  There was also other things under the steps (our only real storage in this house) that I just keep re-packing each year.  Needless to say, I was in the mood to get rid of stuff.  And I did!  I still am.  After clearing out the non-Christmas stuff we don't need, I moved on the Christmas stuff.  I'm still working on it, but I think I should get it down to 3, maybe 4 totes.  Can't wait!  The stuff is all being donated to our friend who does auctions, with the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.  Win win for all!

I guess this wasn't a super quick recap....but oh well, that's me.  Once we get the tree decorated in the next couple of days, I will post pictures. 
I hope to remain consistant at posting...most likely 2 - 3 times a week.  Everyday was a little difficult.  A few times a week seems much more manageable.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all our family and friends!  I hope your day was full of new memories and lots of turkey!  We spent the day with Jim's family.  We started off for lunch at the Roasted Pear in Burnsville (very disappointed in the food this year though :( ).  We then spent some time at Jim's parents with the entire family...so nice!  Love spending time with them.  Then we were off to Austin to enjoy the remainder of the day with my family and some family friends.  Tomorrow I may venture out to shop....we will see.  And we are getting the Jeep window fixed...can't wait!  6 months in waiting!  And then I'm excited I still have 2 more days off....what to do, what to do!

This year I am thankful for many blessings in my life...the following are only a few!

• I'm thankful for my husband and beautiful daughter!  They are my life!
• I'm thankful for all of my wonderful friends and family.  I know that I can count on any of you at any given time.
• I'm thankful what 2011 has to bring for us!

Success

The weekend away scrapbooking was a great success! 

Christy and I had a great time together, as we always do.  We had great table mates, which is always nice (and so far we have been lucky, we have always had great table mates).  This year our rooming was much different.  We have always had 2 maybe 3 other people in our room, or even sometimes we got a room to ourselves.  This year we shared a really big room with 6 other women (8 total).  Wow!  Thankfully we got there when we did and we got each got a bottom bunk.  The biggest thing I was thankful with this amount of women was that no one snored.  We have had years, where this was a problem.  This is why earplugs were invented and now why we always carry them with us to this scrapbooking retreat.  Happy to report we didn't have to use them.

Now the big question I'm sure you are all wondering about....how many pages did I complete.  23!  Usually my average is 17, so I was very happy with 23.  Granted they were all Christmas 2008...yes, that is all that I worked on.  Now I'm re-thinking how I'm going to scrapbook future Christmas's.  Time will tell.

All in all, it was a great success.  The company was fantastic and the scrapbooking was successful!

Procrastinate much?

Hello...???  Alright, I have missed two days of my month long goal this week.  What gives you ask?  Well, it's me, procrastinating.  ha!  I am going scrapbooking all weekend...this weekend.  It's not anything new, I go every year in Nov.  I've known for two months when I'm going and yet I am just getting all my stuff together this week.

I had to move things out of the office (which is currently being redone.  Or I should really say, done.  That is the last room for us to organize since we moved in....2 years ago.  I'll post the "before" and "after" sometime.) to even get to all my scrapbooking stuff, which has gone untouched since May.  I have some pictures printed, but I want to do one more year (2008) of Christmas pictures.  That meant I needed to choose and edit which ones I wanted to print and then I needed to order them.  That has been what has been keeping me so busy this week.  Tomorrow night I will finish up the packing of ALL the stuff!  There is a lot of stuff.  And then we leave on Friday!  Yeah!  Can't wait!

Oh...one more day of work this week and then I'm off on Friday!  I love short weeks.  Next week is short too....yeah!

Happy Monday!  While my morning was rushed, couldn't find my belt (I swear clothes are disappearing in my house...that's a whole other post), my left turn signal has decided it only wants to work sometimes (wth?) and there was an accident on 169N causing my exit to be backed up greatly.  Thankfully I have a back up plan, although slightly out of my way, it was much faster than sitting and waiting to get on 169.  What a Monday morning!

With all that being said....I was excited to find this website....since Sydney's winter boots have disappeared and she desperately needs boots to keep her little toes warm.  I was hoping to have a coupon....I'm off to buy new boots for her today.

Winter Snow Storm Nov. 2010

Wow!  What a snow storm we had.  On Friday evening I spent the evening at a craft show with my mom, the sky was clear, I wasn't wearing a jacket.  By the time I went to bed around midnight, the snow was falling and then the adventure began.  We lost power at 2am for about 5 mins.  I guess we lost it again around 4am, I didn't hear it go out then.  It then went out again around 7am and was out for about 3 hours.  We took advantage of this time to make breakfast, thankfully we did, because....we lost it again around 12 noon.  This time we took the time to go outside to shovel some of the heaviest snow I have ever shoveled.  Thankfully my mom was here (although she was supposed to go home on Sat.  That didn't happen.), as she helped me shovel.  Sydney had fun enjoying the fresh snow fall!  The trees were full of snow and weighted down greatly.  Some trees weren't so lucky.  Unfortunately it looks like my neighbors tree might be a lost cause.  And the "big ugly green blob" in front of our house looks like it took a beating too.  Thankfully that is being removed next spring! We were outside for about 2.5 hours.  The power was still out.  It came back on around 3ish, only to go out again 30 mins later.  Thankfully, that was the last time and it only lasted for about 30 mins.  I know we were some of the lucky ones, as some people in the metro area still have no power.  The snow is / was beautiful.  I loved that it arrived on a weekend.  Could have done without the power outages.  In all, it was an ok first snow storm of the season!  Now if all the snow storms could happen on the weekends, when we are going to be home, that would be perfect! ha!  I can dream....

Seasons

They are saying that we might see our first snowfall of the season, this weekend.  Shhhh.....don't tell anyone, but I'm kind of excited.  Would I be this excited if it was during the work week?  No!  The thought of my first post snowfall commute makes me shudder.  But the fact that it might be on the weekend, when we really have no big plans.  I'm thrilled!  Sydney will be thrilled!  I can see her now, when she can she will be outside, soaking it all up.  I can imagine the first thing she will do is make a snow angel.  She did that last year.

Jim will be traveling (to hunt, of course), but I know he will be safe. If he can drive us to Austin in a horrible snowstorm last Christmas, to spend the holiday with his wife's family, which ultimately makes his wife very happy. Then I know he will drive safe, if he is encounters a storm his way, this weekend. My mom will be traveling too. She is coming to visit us. I'll make sure she is safe and leaves when it is a good time to leave. Thankfully the roads are still warm enough, that really, travelling should be safe for all. We may live in the mid-west, but it seems that no matter how long you live in here, it's always as if some of us need to relearn how to drive when there is snow on the ground.

This is one reason why I am thankful for where I live.  I get to enjoy all the season's.  I can't imagine not having all four season's.  I look forward to them all. 

Some good things about each season:

Winter:  Beauty!  The first snowfall or last, it never ceases to amaze the beauty that snow brings.  And the frost covered trees....awww, some of my most favorite things to view.

Spring:  Green!  Birds!  Music from the animals!  The trees are budding, the grass peaking through the last amount of snow and then turning green.  People are coming out of their homes for extended periods of time, not just running to their car to get out of the cold.

Summer:  Laughter!  You hear the kids back outside, playing, laughing, being kids.  Neighbors!  The people are back outside in full swing.  Trees in full bloom.  The smell of fresh cut grass.  Sprinkler's and swimming pools.  The laughter from those enjoying the water.  Bonfires.  S'mores.  Vacations!  Friends!

Fall:  Oh, the colors!   The amazing colors the leaves turn to and sprinkle to the ground.  The smell from the last bonfires of the year.  Fresh air.  The cooler temps.  Sleeping with the windows open and the cool breeze blowing in as you sleep.  Holidays!  Halloween, costumes, and trick or treating.  Laughter from all the little kids running from house to house.  Thanksgiving, time to give thanks for all the last year has given you.  Pre-Christmas planning.  Family!

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of things about each season that can be annoying, but today I am only looking at the positive.  I'm relishing in things that making living where all the seasons are present, is why I live here.  And I look forward to all the changes, each season brings.

CMA's

I'm sitting here tonight watching the CMA's.  This is the one celebrity / award event that I really enjoy watching.  Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood are such good hosts.  I enjoy their friendly banter and jokes they do.  Entertaining!  And let's be honest, I just flat out love country music. 

Sydney and I have "our" song.  It is "Stuck like Glue" by Sugarland.  Sure this song is more about a relationship.  But the "stuck like glue" part is her and me.  And everytime this song is on and we are at home, we listen to it together.  Tonight Sugarland was going to be on the CMA's, she was excited to hear it.  Unfortunately, they were on after she was sound asleep.  But....I have it recorded and promised her that we would listen to it tomorrow.  It was good.  She will enjoy it!

Yes...this was a short post, but remember...I'm trying to do a blog post everyday in the month of November.  So far, I've only missed one day.  Let's hope I can come up with something more entertaining tomorrow.  ha! :)

Who knew?

***I'm writing about this so I can remember these times. Times that are tough. Times I never expected we would have to encounter. I'm not writing because I want to remember...but it is part of the journey. The journey that I hope ends with a positive result.***

Who knew getting pregnant the 2nd time around would be so difficult? We sure didn't! Especially because getting pregnant with Sydney was SOOO easy! Yes, we were younger. Who cares. We started trying again when she was 2.5 years old. Well, now she is almost 5 (wow...how is THAT possible? That's another post.) and we are now seeking help of modern technology. I have to say, we are eternally grateful for the beautiful daughter we do have. But like us, she would LOVE a sibling. Because we have been blessed with Sydney, and because her delivery was nothing short of uneventful (modesty anyone..ha!)...all sense of my modesty went out the window. Sure, I don't go around naked outside of my home or the doctor office, but it has made these new doctor appts a little easier. Who knew they would need to do an "internal" ultrasound on day 2 of my cycle. Say what? Seriously? Yep! 

To back up a little....thank goodness my insurance covers Reproductive Medicine. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! However, with that, there is only one place in the state of MN that my insurance allows us to go to...at the University of Minnesota...downtown. There was a ton of paperwork we needed to fill out (22 pages). I guess you could say I was in slight denial that we needed the help of modern technology. It took us over a year to fill out the paperwork. Within that year my insurance added another place for us to go to. Yes, it was closer to my work, but hey, it took us a year to fill out the paperwork for the other place, I wasn't going to start over again. We went with the UofM. And yes, downtown. No, not ideal for the girl that anything north of 494 is out of her comfort zone (we live south of the river...as if this means anything to anyone not from here reading this.), but I forged ahead, dealt with the Crosstown / 62 construction...thank goodness for only a short time (maybe another reason why I procrastinated so long in filling out that paperwork...I would have had to deal with that construction longer..hmm). It takes me 30 mins to get to the dr. office from my work during the middle of a week day. Not ideal, but not horrible. We had our first appt. on 7/22 with NP Mary Dannich. She was great. Was very positive. And did that "internal" ultrasound. I have had many lab work appts (MANY). That first month we did Clomid. It wasn't bad taking it, but about a week or so later I had some of the worst headaches I've ever had. 

Our 2nd visit was with Dr. Phipps (the endocrinologist).  He is new to the team, but I was willing to meet with him.  I'm not overly impressed with his "bedside manner", however he does seem to know his facts.  His biggest concern is that my "ovary's are aging" (I hear that as "my ovary's are old....which doesn't make this whole situation any better), but I believe everything else seems to be fine.  Jim was tested.  He was fine.  The doctor was concerned about the headaches that I got when taking the clomid, so we won't be doing that anymore.  My next cycle we just tried on our own, because he wanted more labs done. 

After those additional labs were done, we met with him again.  He has decided that we will try AI for three months (hopefully three months are not needed).  We would also do the medicine HCG, which is a shot.  The shot was to be done in the stomach.  We had a small hiccup with my insurance company and the mail order prescription company that we need to use.  I had a slight meltdown dealing with that.  Thankfully everything worked out and I got the medicine in time.  I did the shot on 10/6.  The AI was done on 10/7.  And then we just waited.  Sadly, I got my period on 10/20. 

Month 2:  Went in for an "internal" ultrasound on 10/31.  Two eggs.  Oh my!  Twins run in my family (my dad is a fraternal twin).  Jim was a little nervous about the two eggs.  I told him, we may have had two eggs the others months when we were trying on our own and we never knew...but we kept on trying.  The only difference is that we know this time.  I was supposed to do the HCG shot again, but my mail order pharmacy screwed up and I didn't get the package in time.  Thankfully my body triggered an LH surge on it's own, so the doctor was fine with not doing the shot this time. Thank goodness, because the package was late.  The AI was done on 11/3.  We now wait and hope....along with many prayers.

Who knew this journey would be ours?  I guess it's for a reason, I just wish I understood the reason.....

Beautiful....

Beautiful fall day, beautiful girl, my girl, and she is so very proud of her beautiful, little, pumpkins she helped daddy grow in the garden (32 total).  We love fall!  And how lucky am I to have such a sweet (most of the time...ha!), beautiful little girl (who really isn't so little anymore :( ), who I love more that I ever thought I could love someone.  I am beyond blessed!!

Family Pictures

We had our family pictures taken on Oct. 10th, in Stillwater by Liz Westerhaus, with Foresthaus Photography.  We typically have her come to the house to take the pics, but this year I wanted some outdoor shots and what better place than Stillwater, MN on a beautiful fall day!  She took a ton of shots and these are only a sampling of the ones we got from her.  She always does such a good job at capturing Sydney's personality (funny, goofy, serious, stubborn..you name it, she gets it).  One reason why I love her style so much.  I can't decide which ones I'm going to use for our Christmas card, but once I do decide I will post the rest of them in another blog post.  Enjoy these for now.

It really is no secret that I love blogging.  I love to read other people's blogs, especially ones that are, thrifty, crafty, creative and inspire me.  I have no idea how I stumbled upon any of them, but they are ones that I would probably have to say, I check daily.  Seriously, they are that good.  And they all seem to have "Show and Share" type of days on their blog, so that gives me the opportunity to look at other people's blogs that are as equally creative as the others.  Seriously, heaven!  Take a look, I promise you won't regret it!

I Shoot People....

....with my camera.  ha!  I love my camera!  In fact I have two camera's.  I have a small point and shoot Canon Elph from 2006.  I have shot well over 4000 pictures with this camera.  I also have a Canon EOS RebelXSI SLR.  She is a beauty!  I upgraded to her from my Canon RebelG film camera.  They are both great cameras, but I knew when I bought a digital I wanted to upgrade a little.  I bought my SLR in Dec. 2008, after I had saved for over a year.  I can't believe the pictures it takes.  I'm still amazed two years later at the quality of the pictures.  I have already taken well over 4000 pics with this camera too. 

There is a saying (or at least I think there is) that a camera brand is similar to a car.  You are either a Chevy lover or a Ford lover.  I happen to love Chevy, among those two.  So you are either a Canon lover or a Nikon lover.  I am, obviously, a Canon lover.  I would recommend either one of these cameras to anyone.

Danker Family Wedding

The weekend of Sept. 24th - 26th, my mom, Sydney and I traveled to Davenport, IA for a family wedding!  My cousin Tom's daughter, Shalan, was getting married.  Woot!   I love family weddings.  We had a blast.  I love getting together with my extended family.  My mom is 1 of 7 kids and there are 26 first cousins and lots of 2nd cousins.  We had a pretty good showing of Danker family at this wedding, many I hadn't seen in years and one I got to meet for the first time (my cousin Scott's wife, Pam).  Okay, years isn't quite true, as we all say each other in May.  The wedding was a much happier occassion though. 

As a side note, 25 of us cousins were with each other at my aunts funeral in May.  My Aunt Donna (Tom's mom, Shalan's grandma) passed unexpectedly.  Although she wasn't with us physically at the wedding, we know she was still there.  We know she would have been proud!
